Since its charter
on 11-Nov-1973 The General A.A. Vandegrift Detachment 068 has supported our
Marines, FMF Corpsmen, local Veterans, their families and Youth through
various programs and fund-raising events.
We are active in the community; involved in such events
as Holiday/Veterans Parades; providing Color Guard/Honor Guard for our
fallen Veterans, as well as assistance to our Veterans and their families
during their time of need. Our members visit our Veterans at the local VA
Extended Care Unit on a weekly basis and provide other assistance thru ice
cream socials and meals at least once a month as supported by the VA Staff.
We work in conjunction with the local Marine Corps
Recruiters and 4th ANGLICO, the local Marine Corps Reserve Unit
to provide care packages as well as support in other forms for our Marines,
FMF Corpsmen and Veterans who have served or are currently serving in areas
of conflict around the globe.
MARINES CORPS LEAGUE HISTORY
The Marine Corps League
perpetuates the traditions and spirit of ALL Marines and Navy FMF
Corpsmen, who proudly wear or who have worn the eagle, globe and anchor
of the Corps. It takes great pride in crediting its founding in 1923 to
World War I hero, then Major General Commandant John A. Lejeune. It
takes equal pride in its Federal Charter, approved by An Act of the
Seventy-Fifth Congress of the United States of America and signed and
approved by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 4, 1937. The
League is the only Federally Chartered Marine Corps related veterans
organization in the country.
